Introduction:
The past two weeks in my intro to education class we have been observing High School classes. This is a great way for students to get "experience" while still in high school, as well as exploring different fields of education.
Observation #1
My first teacher teaches chemistry (regular and honors) as well as AP chemistry, I observed her 11th grade chemistry class. She had great rapport with students, showing genuine interest in their conversations while also maintaining a professional attitude. This particular day was a study/catch-up day. she used many helpful "methods" one of them being giving the students a list of what they should study for their upcoming test. I find this very helpful as she is straight to the point, not leaving students in the dark.
Observation #2
The second class I observed was an Anatomy class. This teacher had great rapport with students, joking with them while still maintaining a professional attitude. This day was a slower day just filling out a note sheet and doing a labeling activity. One method that was really beneficial was putting stars by important information and encouraging them to make flashcards to study with. The students made and studied their flashcards and the next test was reportedly the highest scoring test!
Biggest Takeaway
My biggest takeaway from this week is encouraging students to make flashcards over important information is very beneficial.
